2. Required documents
In order to study at Greifswald University, applicants must hold a recognized higher education entrance
qualification and submit proof of sufficient proficiency in German.
Foreign secondary school leaving certificates are assessed as follows:
• If the school leaving certificate is equivalent to the German secondary school leaving certificate
(Abitur) an applicant is eligible to take up studies at Greifswald University directly.
• If the school leaving certificate is only partially equivalent to the German Abitur the applicant will
have to attend a preparatory course (Studienkolleg) and pass an assessment test
(Feststellungsprüfung) before commencing studies.
• If the school leaving certificate is not equivalent to the German Abitur the applicant may
nevertheless gain direct admission to studies if they have already studied for a period of time at an
acknowledged higher education institution. In this case it is possible to study the same subject the
applicant has studied before or closely related subjects.
If the school leaving certificate only qualifies the applicant to study certain subjects in his/her home
country, these restrictions will also apply in Germany (Fachbindung).
Before applying, it is possible to check whether the certificate will be recognized in Germany by using the
ANABIN database or the DAAD Admissions Database, both available on the Internet (
[ندعوك للتسجيل في المنتدى أو التعريف بنفسك لمعاينة هذا الرابط]The application must contain the following documents:

• proof that the applicant has passed the general university entrance examination (applies only to
applicants from certain countries, e.g. Iran, Turkey, Korea, Vietnam)
• academic records and academic degree certificates (each must include a list of subjects and
grades) – only if the applicant has any of these –
• proof of German language proficiency
• for applicants from China, from Mongolia and from Vietnam proof of pre-check
(Überprüfungsbestätigung/ APS) of the German embassy

“good” (2,5 or better) and for graduates of Studienkolleg a assessment test (Feststellungsprüfung) with
grade “good” or better.

[ندعوك للتسجيل في المنتدى أو التعريف بنفسك لمعاينة هذا الرابط]* For the degree courses of German Studies, German as Foreign Language, Medicine, Dentistry and
Communications Science, the DSH level 3 or TestDaF level 5 is obligatory.
For degree courses with admissions restrictions, proof of proficiency in German has to be submitted by
the application deadline (15th January or 15th July). For all other degree courses and applicants with EU or
EEA citizenship, it is sufficient to submit proof by the day of enrolment. Students applying for a semester
abroad (i.e. not taking a degree) and students who graduated in German studies do not have to prove
proficiency in German.
Greifswald University offers German language courses at intermediate and advanced level (Mittelstufe,
Oberstufe) in which applicants can prepare for their studies and the DSH exam.
Applicants who have had at least 400 hours of instruction in German may take the entrance examination,
the results of which will decide on admission to the course.
Prior application to admission to studies is obligatory, for which a recognized higher education entrance
qualification for Greifswald University or another German university is prerequisite.
Applicants who have to attend a preparatory course (Studienkolleg) prior to commencing their studies
cannot participate in the DSH language course.
Course fees are 300 EUR per semester. The fee for the DSH exam is 150 EUR.
There is no course at beginner level.
Applicants wishing to take the DSH exam direct without first taking a DSH language course are required to
submit proof of excellent intermediate level proficiency in German (equivalent to the “Zentrale
Mittelstufenprüfung” of Goethe-Institut) or a minimum of 800 hours of instruction in German. Admission to
the DSH exam will only be granted in conjunction with admission to studies at Greifswald University.
Further information about the German language courses and the DSH exam can be found on the
International Office’s website.

4. Preparatory courses (Studienkolleg )
If an applicant’s previous education is not sufficient for direct admission to university, he/she is required to
take an assessment test (Feststellungsprüfung). In this test he/she must demonstrate that he/she possess
the necessary knowledge and skills to take up a desired course of study.
Greifswald University’s Studienkolleg offers the following preparatory courses for the respective
disciplines:
• T-Kurse :
for technical and mathematical courses of study as well as for the natural sciences (except biology)
• M-Kurse:
for medical and biological courses of study
• G/S-Kurse :
for courses of study in the arts and humanities as well as German studies and other languages
(W-Kurse for economics and the social sciences are not available.)
Admission to the Studienkolleg is possible both for the summer and the winter semester. To this end,
entrance examinations are held in August and January.
In order to be accepted to the entrance examination, proof of good proficiency in German at basic level
(minimum of 300 hours of instruction) must be provided. If one should fail the test, he/she may take a onesemester
intensive language course to prepare for the next test.
The certificate gained by passing the assessment test qualifies an applicant only for certain courses of
study. For instance, if one originally applied for a technical subject and accordingly attended a T-Kurs,
he/she cannot apply for a subject in the humanities afterwards.
